How to Play Bad Guy on Guitar!

Getting Started

Bad Guy by Billie Eilish is a song that I would consider to be one of the best song released recently.  From the vocal effects to the riff, the song is very catchy and easily grabs your attention.

The guitar riff is alot of fun to play and is very easily accessible for a beginning guitarist.  As you play through this one make sure to pay attention to where your fingers are and follow the lesson video above for a detailed explanation of how to play it.

The Riff

Figure 1

The riff starts out on the 3rd fret of low E string.  (Let’s call this the G position)  In the G position we will go between the 3rd fret of the low E (called G), the first fret of the A (called Bb) and the first fret of the low E (called F).  As you move between these notes, use your third finger to play the notes in the third fret and your first finger to play the notes in the first fret.  This is also called first position.

The next position is on the 3rd fret of the A string.  (Let’s call this position C)  In this position you make the same basic movements as the  G position, but on the A and D strings until the very last note where you slide up to the fifth fret with your third finger to start the last position.

The last position still uses the A and D strings, but starts with your third finger on the fifth fret of the A string.  (Let’s call this D position)

Here is the order of the of the positions:  Gx4, Cx1, and Dx1.  Check out the full TAB and video below!

The Melody

Playing the melody for this song is a little more advanced.  Most of the action takes place between the 7th and the 9th fret until the riff that ends the song which moves up to the 12 and 13th.  Check out the video and TAB below!
